Barangaroo

View of the Baranagaroo Development from my office window.  Lend Lease have avoided having an extensive number of trucks on the road carrying excavated material by purchasing a container barge.  This is loaded up with excavated material and sails off to drop it off at the new Port Kembla.  Saves all that extra traffic, fuel etc.  The barge looks like it may not make it all the way, though.

Cockatoo Island

Under the Harbour Bridge...

Docking at Cockatoo Island....

Cockatoo Island is hosting part the Biennale Festival, a contemporary arts visual arts festival.  I read the program, digested the exhibit information and contemplated the relevance of each installation, but could not for the life of me give you any idea what any of them are about.  So here is some cold smoke pouring across the entrance to a building.

After a long tour of the exhibits, we sit and contemplate the relevance of existance in context of man's struggle to come to terms with mortality and post-modernist.....pass the vegemite.

Following initial use as a penal facility in the 1850's, Cockatoo Island developed into a major shipyard, reaching its zenith in the 1940's after the fall of Singapore.

(Long day (its only 2.30pm) and we are starting to feel very tired (pronounced "Toi-urrrd").

You Are Here.

Growing Antagonism

There can be some tension between three 4 year old's, especially biys and girls.  Thomas has just told Hannah "Monkeys will crawl up your bottom, and fart on your head!).  Lovely.

Balmain August 2012

Saturday, and we drop off Kate at her work Hatrick Catering in Balmain.  I have been in to Balmain a few times, but never really explored so we drive down the high street, past the market, down to Balmain East.  This is just across the harbour from the CBD and with great views - my office can be seen across Darling Harbour (the Aon building below).

And across to North Sydney...

The sun is out, and feels like a beautiful Sydney spring day, so we leave the car and we take a walk down to the reserve next to the Wharf.  From the park at Balmain East Wharf across to Sydney Harbour Bridge:

After following the path round the reserve, we find a tidal pool at the end (A Little Beach!), and Thomas, Zach & Hannah have fun with the incoming water.  Not sure how clean the Harbour water is at this point.

There is a large ships anchor in the reserve - couldnt find any description at the site, and nothing on the internet.  Anyone knows what the relevance is, let me know.

  Hannah practicing her posing...see later..

From Balmain East back across Darling Harbour towards Barnagaroo...

And south towards Jones Bay Wharf...

Waving at the passing ferries....

Meanwhile, Thomas examines the lizards on the logs....

"Ten-pin?"
"No, permanent."

Mouths of Babes I

Zach to Hannah:  "Hannah, there is no such thing as ghosts or monsters..... or bears."

Rocky - Zoo Zoo

Zach has had a close encounter with the kitchen bench....the children are just at the age where the marble top is just at head height.  Zach was coming back to take the next plate to the table from the kitchen when he cracked his head against the counter top.  Quick visit to the doctor to make sure he hadnt broken anything, and he was up and away with a beautiful shiner.
